We hope that everyone had a very happy Thanksgiving. Ours was extra nice this year with family, friends, exchange students and guests. It was the first American Thanksgiving for one of our guests and it was a joy to have her participate with us.
Today, we began digging the holiday decorations out from where we stashed them
last year. Santa and the wreathe are at the front door and slowly but surely, things will start appearing inside. This year we have new Cullen family stockings to hang up by the chimney with care in thanks to our friends and special guests, Trent and Mary Beth. They are beautifully embroidered with the names of all of the Cullen family characters and will be among the first decorations to go up this year.
We plan on getting our tree at the annual Festival of Trees. This year, the Festival will take place in the new Rainforest Arts Center. We are thrilled to have this beautiful facility in the heart of Forks and are very happy that it is being well used. The Festival will have viewing on Saturday and the auction on Sunday of this week, December 5 & 6, 2015
On December 5, the Northwest Choral will be performing at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. It will be a great way to break into the holidays, so if you happen to be in Forks, be sure to come.
We believe that there will be a host of other activities and bazaars in and around town this weekend. For times and places, be sure to check out the Forks Chamber of Commerce Events page at: www.forkswa.com
And finally, the Miller Tree Inn building will be 100 years old in 2016. We have an order of 100th anniversary mugs being shipped right now and should be here any day. We are celebrating with a pre-birthday special. From now until December 23, 2015 any available room for 2 people is $100 plus tax. Rooms include a full breakfast, of course. So what are you waiting for? Come on over and relax with us this holiday season.

Travel On
We attended a Bed and Breakfast Conference earlier this
month. One of our guest speakers
encouraged us to start writing blog entries twice a week to help us market and be
more relevant. We also undertand, that
Google and other search engines would find us more easily. It sounded like a daunting task when we heard it and is still does.
Prior to this, we thought that keeping our blog posts short
and sweet, with a picture was enough. We
thought blogging once a week or even once a month was enough. We weren’t sure that we would have enough to
say to keep the interest of the folks reading our blog and we weren’t sure we
could come up with enough ideas to keep everything fresh. We still think those are valid points. However, something happened a week ago in our
world that shook us up our and we find
that we do have something to say about it.
About a month ago, we spent 6 days/nights in Paris. The weather was a bit cold and a little
rainy, but we had a wonderful time. We
saw beautiful things and had wonderful meals.
We soaked up the atmosphere and enjoyed our interactions with the
friendly people. We left that place
feeling refreshed and renewed and had lovely memories of Paris.
The apartment we were renting was a few blocks from where
all the violence happened last week. We
were shocked, as we listened to the news and looked at the scenes flashing by
on the screen. These were places we had
just been, maybe even people we had
passed on the street. We felt an
overwhelming sadness.
Soon afterward, we started hearing rumblings from people
about not wanting to travel. They were
anxious and afraid. Though we
understood, it further saddened us. We
believe now as we did after the horrors that took place in our own country that
we need to keep traveling. We need to
keep experiencing other people, places and cultures. If we turn into ourselves and do not look
outward, evil wins. Fear wins.
You may be thinking that it is easy for us to say this. After all, we operate a lodging
establishment, we need people to travel.
It is true, we do need people to travel.
However, we take the safety of our guests very seriously. We are totally understanding when snow, ice
and winds make travel dangerous. We
believe in using good sense and precaution.
But we also intend to keep going places, seeing new things and meeting
new people. It enriches our lives.
So, you will find us on the road again at the end of the
year. We will be heading to see family
for Christmas and Bill’s University Football team is headed for a bowl
game. We intend to be at that game,
wherever it is. We are currently talking
about when and where we intend to for vacation the rest of this year and are
debating about if we will go to Europe again in two years or three. In the meantime, we hope to see you in
Forks. We promise to take good care of
you at the Miller Tree Inn.

Red Chair Travels Near Forks!
We have had a busy week with our famous Red Chair, whom we affectionately call, "Red". Red checked out our rooms, visited Dr. Cullen's Office, went to first beach in
La Push, got a tour of the Forks Timber Museum, had lunch with the Chamber of Commerce, was interviewed by Forks Radio and the Forks Forum, hiked in the Hoh Rainforest, walked the beach at Kalaloch and went fishing on one of our world class rivers. We have also dressed Red up for Halloween and he is having trouble deciding which costume he is going to go with.
Tomorrow, we will leave Red in the capable hands of the Innkeepers at the George Washington Inn of Port Angeles, WA. We know he will have a great time there and we will miss seeing his cheerful color. Godspeed, Red!

The Famous Red Chair Visits the Miller Tree Inn
The Red Chair from the BedandBreakfast.com promotion arrived in Forks at the Miller Tree Inn on Saturday, October 25. The very helpful and friendly innkeepers from Domaine Madeleine of Port Angeles delivered Red safely to our door.
We have a series of activities planned for Red that will hopefully include, going to the beach, rainforest, the Visitor's Center, a Chamber of Commerce meeting, pumpkin carving, bicycling and maybe even being featured on a SnapChat event regarding Vampires in Forks. Go Red!
Keep watching for pictures of Red on our Miller Tree Inn Facebook page. You will then know exactly what Red is up to and what you might be able to do, too, if you visit Forks and the Miller Tree Inn. Also check out the other places that Red has traveled to at: www.redchairtravels.com
In other events...Come on over to Forks the weekend of November 6 & 7, 2015. Evan J. Marshall and Brian Oberlin will be at the Rainforest Arts Center at 7PM both nights for the most fabulous live mandolin concert. They were here last year and were outstanding. If make a reservation to stay at the Miller Tree Inn, for either November 6 or 7, 2015, we will buy your tickets to this concert! That is how much we love these guys. Act fast, though, only limited rooms still available.

What a Storm!
Yesterday we awoke to a big rainstorm. We were very excited to see it, as it has been an exceptionally dry and warm summer. Our fire danger was very high and the rains helped with that. Then, the winds came! We have downed limbs all over our yard. It will take quite an effort to clean things up. Many people surrounding us, lost power. We were some of the lucky ones, who did not. Roads into Rialto and the Hoh Rainforest were closed yesterday. We are hoping they will open up today. Our guests will be disappointed if they cannot get down to the rainforest.
Today we woke up to sunshine, but we know not to get too excited. More rain is on the way. Innkeeper Bill says it is because he is going on a hiking trip this week. It could be. It rained on last year's hike too!
Most of us are thankful for the rain, though.

Only in Washington Named Miller Tree Inn one of the Top Ten Bed and Breakfast Inns
This morning we awoke to the news that we had been named one of the top B&B's in the state by Only In Washington. It was a surprise to us and we did not know we were in the running! Thanks to all of our fabulous guests for making it happen. You are appreciated. If you haven't styed with us, yet, we hope that we will get a chance to meet you. If you have stayed with us, thank you very much. If you think your stay was exceptional, a nice review on a review site would be welcome. All of us small properties really take those reviews to heart. The great ones make our hearts soar and remind us of all the wonderful people we have an opportunity to meet. Unfortunately, the not so great ones hurt us, both personally and professionally. In our experience, many of the problems could have been solved, if the reviewer had just spoken to us. Though it might help the next guest, we would like to have the opportunity to help the guest with the problem. We cannot fix things that we do not know about, and that is discouraging.
Several years ago, we planted a red and white garden outside our office window. We tried to plant things that enjoy the shade. We have been nursing our fuschia bush for many years, now and this year it really looks good and we wanted to share that with you all.

Summer is Speeding By
We can't believe that it is the end of July already! Where has the summer gone? About a month ago, we received our latest shipment of Deneen Pottery mugs and are just now posting the newest colors...
The last few days, we have actually had some rain, and we are very thankful for it. Guests were able to have a campfire at the beach over the weekend and our grass is beginning to green up a bit.
Now we are looking forward to August and all the fun guests those days will bring. We have scattered availability throughout August, so come on over and if you have yet to make your plans for Labor Day, we still have rooms available for that last hurrah of summer. Come see us!

Happy 4th of July!
Tomorrow is Independence Day and we would like to wish everyone a safe and happy 4th of July!
This year, due to dry conditions, the 4th of July fireworks show has been cancelled and the West End Little League is not selling fireworks as their fundraiser. They are preselling Demo Derby tickets and there is a donation can available to donate to the Little League. Last weekend there was a wildfire at Rialto Beach, we do not want a repeat of that or anything fire related to happen in town. Please use caution and do not use fireworks this year.
All the other 4th of July activities are in full swing from the Art Show on to Kiddies Play Day. There is a list of events, times and places on the Chamber of Commerce Website at: www.forkswa.com
Since we have been decorated patriotically since Memorial Day, we are definitely ready for the 4th. Yesterday we did do a little rearranging in our common area and have a new conversation area by the front window. We have gotten some positive feedback from last night's guests.

The 4th of July is Just Around the Corner
The 4th of July is just around the corner and Forks will be doing it right from the parade, to the salmon bake to the demo derby and beyond. We are a little unclear about whether or not the fireworks will be on as it has been warm and dry here. There is a burn ban in and around Forks, so we ask anyone and everyone to be careful with fireworks. There was even a fire down at Rialto Beach last night. Please be cautious.
Our roses have been loving the warm, sunny weather and the residents of Forks and vicinity have been enjoying it, too.
Though we are currently full to the brim over the 4th of July weekend, we still have availability July 1 and July 5. Come on over. We'd love to see you.

We Are Blooming at the Inn
May is a beautiful time on the Olympic Peninsula. Our state flower, the rhododendron is in bloom, everywhere. You can even see the light pink wild ones blooming along side the highways. It is a gorgeous time to travel.
Everything was super busy over the Memorial Day weekend, but things have calmed down a bit, now, and you shouldn't have to fight the crowds at the beaches or rainforest. The sun came out this afternoon and guests have been enjoying the front porch swing, with a grand very of the blooming flowers. We should have a couple more weeks of relative quiet before the summer gets into full swing. Come on out, enjoy the flowers and sit a spell.
