Merry Christmas and Happy 2018

We are all decked out and ready for Christmas here at the Miller Tree Inn.  If you find yourself traveling through Forks over the holidays, we may just have a room available for you!

2017 has been a great year for us with lots of changes.  We have had to say goodbye to some of our staff and welcome new people with open arms.  We have tried new breakfast recipes, replaced worn items, cleaned, painted, rearranged and moved.  One thing that hasn't changed over our nearly 20 years as innkeepers is all the wonderful guests that have passed through our doors.  We are grateful for being the lodging choice for so many and we are thankful for the friendship and fellowship that we have shared during the time that each guest was here at the Miller Tree Inn.

May you all have a blessed Christmas and we hope that 2018 is your best year, yet.

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is upon us, and we are busily making preparations for the day.  The Innkeepers at the Miller Tree Inn are especially thankful this year for the completion of their new home.  It is just a hop skip and a jump from the back door of the inn, making it for us to have access to the inn, and for guests to find us in an emergency.  Though it has increased our commute time to work by at least 30 seconds, we find we don't mind too much!

We are also thankful for another year of innkeeping.  We believe that we have some of the best guests in the world, which makes our job easier and more fun.  For those of you that have stayed with us at the Miller Tree Inn, in the past, thank you for your loyalty.  You are appreciated.

If you are traveling over the holiday, please travel safely. If you are coming our way, stop by, we might have a room available just for you!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Fall is in the Air

Fall has definitely arrived in Forks. The evenings and mornings are a little cooler and we have been experiencing some rain! In house, we have been getting out the fall decorations and this little guy is our fall greeter at the front door!

We have been serving some of our favorite breakfasts this week at the Miller Tree Inn.  Though we serve these breakfasts year round, they seem especially fitting for a brisk fall day.  Yesterday's breakfast was gingerbread pancakes, today we had a hearty eggs benedict and tomorrow orange croissant french toast is on tap.

Have a wonderful fall!

Signs of Summer

There are signs of summer all around the Miller Tree Inn.  We recently celebrated the 4th of July, our town's celebration of the year.  Coming around the corner is Relay for Life, which will be like a street fair downtown.  Lots of great guests from all over the world have been gracing our breakfast tables each morning.  But the surest sign of summer for us is the neighbors getting red to cut hay and the roses on the arbor blooming.  Some of those rose petals have been making their appearance as garnish on breakfast plates!

Memorial Day 2017

Yesterday was a busy day at the Miller Tree Inn.  Late in the afternoon, we tried to put up the patriotic red, white and blue decorations that will stay with us for Memorial Day, Flag Day and the 4th of July.  As hard as we tried, chaos reigned, and it was not until today that the decorations were completed.  Now we are ready for our holiday weekend guests and for the beginning of summer.

Today we have time to reflect and remember what Memorial Day is all about.  It is not just a 3 day weekend and the "kick off" for the summer season.  It is a day to think about and appreciate the sacrifices that many made for us and for our country.  Many gave all that they had and their families continue to suffer.  It is humbling and hopefully inspires all of us to live lives worthy of their sacrifice.

New Mugs!

We got our latest shipment of mugs on Friday. I spent the afternoon counting them, washing them and putting them away. We are really excited about our new colors, chocolate and hunter green in the Miller Tree Inn mugs and red for our Cullen House mugs! Thanks Deneen Pottery!

Other good news from the week:  The Twilight props that were purchased at the auction in November have arrived safely in Forks and will be unpacked and ready to display.  Opening date for the display is May 20!  We can't wait.

The Forever Twilight in Forks committee revealed last week that Jackson Rathbone (Jasper Hale) will be coming to the Forever Twilight in Forks weekend September 2017.  That is pretty exciting news for us.

Anyone else remember making construction paper cones with handles, picking flowers from the garden to put in the cones and then hanging the flower filled cones on your favorite neighbors door knobs, ringing the bell and running off to hide? If you do, then Happy May Day to you from all of us at the Miller Tree Inn

! We aren't hanging flowers on our guests bedroom doors, but we have plenty of spring flowers for them to look at.

April 2017 at the Miller Tree Inn

What a glorious spring day at the Miller Tree Inn. The robins are out, the flowers are springing up and a humming bird family is building a nest in the monkey puzzle tree. They shouldn't have to worry about Moira the cat getting up in that tree!

We still have rooms available most days in April. Come on over and enjoy a little spring relaxation with us!

Quillayute Valley Scholarship Auction

We were reminded last week that the annual Quillayute Valley Scholarship Auction is coming up on March 18 and 19. It is fun and one of our favorite weekends of the year. The auction is live at Forks High School and is broadcast through our local radio station, so folks can call in their bids. Hopefully items will be pictured on line, so people can participate that way. All money raised at the auction during that weekend is given in scholarships. All students graduating from Forks High School or the Quileute Tribal School are eligible for scholarships. The students and scholarship committee hope to raise $92,000 at this year's auction.
Local businesses and individuals donate items for the auction. Items might include smoked fish, a pie, quilts, furniture, a car, etc.
Typically, the Miller Tree Inn donates a breakfast for 4 at the Inn, and some baked goods for the auction. There will be hundreds of items to bid on.
This year, we are especially committed to making the auction a success. Innkeeper, Bill is a member of the Quillayute Valley Scholarship Auction Committee, and was a scholarship recipient back in 1973. Our niece is one of the student chair persons and 2 of our employees are graduating this spring and will be eligible for scholarships
During the auction, the Senior Parents operate a concessions booth with all sorts of food items, so you don't have to leave the auction to go to breakfast, lunch or dinner! The funds from the concession stand go towards Senior Safe Night, providing a safe party and celebration on graduation night.
The Miller Tree Inn, still has many rooms available for the Scholarship Auction Weekend. Come join the fun on March 18 & 19 and help out our graduating seniors earn scholarship money. It is a win, for everyone!

Valentine's Day 2017

We heard a rumor at the Miller Tree Inn that tomorrow is Valentine's Day. It just so happens that we still have rooms available for a quick get away, or come join us this coming weekend to enjoy the President's Day holiday. Either way, we would love to take care of you.
We love Valentine's Day. The snow drops have made their appearance, so we think spring may be just around the corner. Love is in the air, as well as the smell of sugar cookies baking. We discovered a long time ago, that the gift doesn't have to big or expensive. It just needs to come from the heart. So, innkeeper Bill will be getting his traditional heart shaped, frosted sugar cookies.
We wish you all a very happy Valentine's Day filled with love and sweetness!

February 2017

February is just around the corner and is "Heart Healthy" Month. Today we went through a few recipes at the Miller Tree Inn to see if we could find a good contender for eating a heart healthy breakfast at the Inn. The recipe that we came up with was: Mediterranean Scrambled Eggs in Pita Pockets.
Serves 2
1TBS vegetable oil (I use olive)
1/3 cup diced tomato
1 cup baby spinach
3 eggs (or egg whites or egg substitute)
1/8 cup feta cheese, crumbled
salt & pepper to taste
Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Saute tomatoes and spinach until spinach is wilted. Add eggs and mix to scramble. After cooking for 30 seconds, add the feta cheese. Continue to cook until the egg is cooked to your preference. Season with salt and pepper and spoon into a 2 warmed pita halves and serve.

Happy 2017

It is the new year and time to make resolutions and turn over new leaves in our lives. Here at the Miller Tree Inn, we resolve to be the best that we can be. Along with that, there are some new things to come in 2017 in and around the inn. The carpet layers will be here next week to put in new carpet on our stairs and hallways. As summer approaches we will be saying goodbye to the Minnie room and putting a new room up for rent. The new room will be on the 3rd floor and have a two person whirlpool tub, gas fireplace and a view of the tree covered hills to the south of us. We will also try to slip in a few new breakfast recipes along with our tried and true favorites. No matter where life takes you, all of us at the Miller Tree Inn wish you a happy 2017 and hope you will come over and see us.
