Twilight Release Weekend Recap and Ta, ta, for Now!
March 23, 2009
There were about 600 people in downtown Forks at midnight on Friday evening for the DVD release party. Everyone enjoyed the wolf dance by the Quielutes and all were excited to get their DVDs.
We had every kind of weather imaginable over the weekend, from pouring down rain Friday to beautiful and sunny on Saturday, to snow and hail on Sunday. There was something for everyone, vampires included! All in all, we think it was a great success and look forward to New Moon coming out. It is being filmed in the Vancouver, BC area right now!
The Cullen family is sending their resident innkeepers on vacation until mid-April, so there will not be any blog entries in their absence. Look for them again after the middle of the month. In the absence of the innkeepers, Cheryl, Michelle and Mary, our innsitters will be taking care of the overnight guests at the Cullen House. They have all worked here numerous times before and know the area well, and are able to answer the questions of our "Twilight" fans. Please come visit them. We wouldn't want them to be lonesome. After all, the Cullens are away a lot!

Have a FORKS-tastic Weekend!
March 20, 2009
It is a BIG weekend here in Forks. Tonight, our local merchants are staying open until 10PM and most have brought in special merchandise in honor of the Twilight DVD release. Then at 10PM, the party starts at the Rainforest Arts Center. It will be decorated to look like the ballet studio in the Twilight movie. It is reported that there will be drawings, games, food, contests AND a special Forks Edition DVD to be handed out at midnight! Don't miss this party sponsored by Dazzled by Twilight.
On Saturday, Leppell's Flowers and Gifts (Twilight Central) is sponsoring a special Twilight Scavenger hunt. The sign up is Saturday morning at Leppell's. Should be really fun and sounds like great prizes, too.
Also on Saturday and Sunday are two annual Forks events. There is a memorial Basketball Tournament that is bringing 14 teams from all over to compete. This will be held at the Forks High School.
The other BIG event is our annual QVSD Scholarship Auction that will be aired live on our local radio station and will be held at the Forks Branch of Bank of America. This auction brings in thousands of dollars each year for our graduating seniors and for any Forks graduate that is continuing their education. Besides the auction, the Senior parents will be sponsoring a food booth to raise money for Senior Safe Night.
All great events, some great causes, come on out and enjoy!
In honor of the DVD release, we have made my mother, Shirley Totten's Fresh Apple Cake recipe for our overnight guests. The recipe is as follows:
FRESH APPLE CAKE
2 Cups sugar and 4 cups finely diced apples. Mix these together and add:
1/2 cup vegetable oil, 2 well beaten eggs, 1 cup finely chopped nuts, 2 teaspoons vanilla. Mix these ingredients and add:
2 cups flour, 2 teaspoons cinnamon, 2 teaspoons baking soda, and 1 teaspoon salt.
Mix altogether, pour in a greased 9 x 13 pan and bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
Let cool and frost. I like to use cream cheese frosting, but chocolate is also good!
Enjoy!

The Gray Whales are In at LaPush!
March 18, 2009
Yesterday, the "Cullen House" innkeepers took a little trip to La Push. They stopped at Three Rivers Resort (the Treaty Line) and picked up burgers to take down to First Beach. While there, they saw lots of whale spouts and a few fins and tales. The whales are on their annual migration to the northern waters off the Alaska coast to feed during the summer months. On their way north, they stop at the mouth of the Quillayute River to frolic in the surf and scrape barnacles off their bodies. It is always fun to see them. A few of our guests were able to pick them out, too. Some are going back this evening.

Happy St. Patrick's Day from Edward
March 17, 2009
Hope you are all wearing your green today! Edward gave the Forks Chamber of Commerce Visitor's Center a green, shamrock shaped wreath to put on the front of Bella's truck to help celebrate the season. Doesn't it look festive?

Edward and the World's Largest Spruce Tree
March 16, 2009
Here is Edward visiting the World's largest spruce tree. It can be found in the Lake Quinault area. There is a nice trail that leads up to it. It is quite an impressive tree, but Edward would have no trouble finding his way to the top.

Edward Has Visitors from Out of the Country
March 13, 2009
Edward has begun to have many spring break visitors. This week he had guests from Texas, Alabama and Utah, as well as some friends from outside the US. He had guests from Australia and a friend from Nova Scotia, Canada, whom he is pictured with here. He is looking forward to greeting many other guests during the next few months. As you can see from the picture, Edward is already set for St. Patrick's Day!

Wicked March Weather
March 8, 2009
We hope that the old saying "March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb," is true. Yesterday we woke up to freezing temperatures and then it proceeded to hail and snow. There was a little sun and a little wind thrown into the mix before we ended with a little more snow and freezing temps overnight. Our snow drops and primroses are having a hard time adjusting to the ever changing weather. Today is beautiful and sunny. Alas, not a good day for vampire spotting.

Edward at Lake Quinault
March 6, 2009
Lake Quinault is another beautiful place that is a nice day trip from Forks. It takes about 1.5 hours to drive there. Besides the beautiful lake, there are some wonderful rain forest trails to hike and some VERY large trees to see! When Edward was there a few weeks ago, it was his favorite kind of day. There was a mist in the air and low lying clouds hanging above the surface of the lake.

Edward At the Ocean
March 4, 2009
Here is Edward at one of his favorite coastal overlooks. It was a particularly gray day, as you can see. Edward enjoyed it, as he didn't have to worry about sparkling.
